This is Day 2 of the famous Routeburn Track in New Zealand. Today I cross Harris Saddle onto Mackenzie Hut on the Routeburn Track. Beautiful weather and clear skies give a picture perfect view of New Zealand's snow capped southern alps ending at Lake Mackenzie.
Check out my store for gear used in this hike:

Total pack weight was ~20 lbs. If you are hiking the Routeburn (or other New Zealand Great Walks) in-season the huts are supplied with stoves and propane fuel so you won't need to bring a stove to lighten up your load (you will need pots and utensils to cook though). This hike though was out of season which means hikers must bring their own stove and fuel to cook their food as there are not stoves provided in the huts during this time.
The weather in New Zealand is famously unpredictable. Be sure you always bring good wet weather gear and insulation in case of a snow conditions in the alpine areas!
